Holidays:
The main holiday that is celebrated in Guatemala is their Independence Day which is September 15, 1821. The main activities that goes on are Parades where people line up on the streets to see wonderful floats and there is food vendors. Towards the end of the day they have a wonderful viewing of fireworks with children playing music, food vendors and games for all to enjoy.
The other holidays are very similar to the ones you celebrate and similar in the activities that happen on those days. An example is for Christmas eve families gather together much like you do, at midnight families set off fireworks to celebrate the birth of Jesus. In the morning the children wake up to presents and then in the evening families gather together and eat dinner as a family and go to church. They have fireworks at noon and at 6 p.m on Christmas day.
